"Gay Power"

Title

"Gay Power"

Subject

Flyer from the Mattachine Society

Description

A flyer announcing an event organized by the Mattachine Society early on in the gay rights movement, probably 1970. The flyer talks about gay oppression and ends with "Mattachine=Militance" (sic). Mattachine was considered too concerned with respectability and working within the system to be equated with militancy, therefore highlighting this flyer as an attempt to bridge the gap between radical gay rights activists and more conservative Mattachine members.
