The Stonewall Riot Rememberd by Tina Crosby
Description
An account of the resource
This excerpt from the investigative paper by Tina Crosby provides a glimpse of testimony she recorded from her informants in 1974. Bob Kohler, Rita Mae Brown and Morty Manford as well as other participants in the Stonewall rebellion are included in Crosby's research. Conducted a few years after the incident, Crosby's interviews are perhaps those least influenced by the broader context of the gay rights movement and the politicizing of later years. However, many of the elements of the Stonewall narrative are established and the roots of collective memory of the event have formed.

Flyer from Mattachine Society
Description
An account of the resource
A flyer produced by Mattachine Society in the summer of 1969 referring to an event called the Hang-Out. A call for gays to meet in Greenwich Village on a summer night and demonstrate peaceful solidarity with the broader community. This would have been in contrast to the nascent Gay Liberation Front, which encouraged protest and disruption in order to gain exposure for the cause.

Flyer from the Mattachine Society
Description
An account of the resource
A flyer announcing an event organized by the Mattachine Society early on in the gay rights movement, probably 1970. The flyer talks about gay oppression and ends with "Mattachine=Militance" (sic). Mattachine was considered too concerned with respectability and working within the system to be equated with militancy, therefore highlighting this flyer as an attempt to bridge the gap between radical gay rights activists and more conservative Mattachine members.
